The Book

Ratoon - The Next Generation is a must read if you were part of 1960’s beach culture in Australia, or even if you are just curious to know what it was like back then. Written in the language of the day and packed to the brim with that delightful, larrikin humour, it takes the reader back to the good old days, a time of innocence, when life was simple and children grew up with unheralded freedom. Essentially a feel good surfing tale, Ratoon highlights the importance of mateship and touches on those awkward moments that boys experience as they reach puberty. If you were there in the 60’s - enjoy. If you weren’t, read this book and see what you missed out on!!

The Author

Originally from the NSW North Coast Mark now lives in Wollongong with his wife and two children. A surfer himself for over 48 years, he has travelled the east coast highways and goat tracks with his mates and surfed just about every wave from Eden to Noosa. These days, when he’s not renovating swimming pools or building retaining walls, he’s out in the water at any one of the many great beaches the Illawarra has to offer. A strong believer in a healthy lifestyle, his spare time is spent cycling with friends and sharing a laugh over coffee at a beachside cafe. Ratoon is the first book in a planned series. The third book has already been written and work on the second is well under way.
